Save the Endangered Programs!
In the midst of decreased funding for some its most popular and effective programs, Mission Community Services is hoping for help from the community. Their 19th annual Dream Auction, to be held on November 7, 2009, is one way that individuals, businesses and organizations who care about preserving these endangered programs can help. This year, the Dream Auction will be held at the Kingsway Arms at Cedarbrooke Chateau, and will include a full-course banquet, entertainment, and an array of items to bid on in a Live and Silent Auction.
Funds raised at the Dream Auction will be targeted for those programs that need it most. Right now, funds are urgently needed for programs aimed at seniors and the homeless. The Friendly Visitors Program, Meals on Wheels, and Seniors Connection programs, some of which face cuts and possible elimination, reach out to seniors, help them maintain active and healthy lifestyles, and ensure that they can access the resources that they need. Funds will also go to help programs aimed at the homeless and those at risk for homelessness, such as the Food Centre, the Red Card Program and the Cold Wet Weather Program. “It is no secret that during times of recession, the demand for social services increases significantly. Supporting the Dream Auction is one practical way the community can ensure that Mission Community Services continues to meet this increased demand in a challenging economic climate,” says Tony Lapointe, MCSS Executive Director.
